Day 14
It's strange how the contents of my glass seems to determine other people's enjoyment...
I made it to two weeks - whilst on holiday!
Great day at the Musee D’Orsay yesterday, followed by dinner with friends. Was invited for pre-dinner Negronis - I took a bottle of Ginger Beer! At the restaurant I started with a Heineken 0.0 whilst everyone else was slurping their massive golden, foam-topped beers (which did look good, I cannot lie) and then hit the sparkling water big time. There was some pressure to drink - one guy even filled my glass up with wine with a “one little glass won’t hurt” comment. I gave him a “look of doom” but just left it there and focussed on the food and conversation. It’s funny how not drinking can be a real problem for other people. Not drinking feels like violating some unspoken rule. It’s as if the content of my glass was responsible for other people’s enjoyment.
Regarldess, it was a lovely evening. Apart from a very fleeting pang, I did not miss it one bit. This was a major milestone for me. I’m not sure I could go out drinking without food, but let’s cross that bridge when I get to it!
